Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) constitute a category of medications that reduce blood pressure by suppressing the activity of the ACE enzyme and are extensively employed in the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, as well as diabetic nephropathy, among others. The ACEi drugs exert their antihypertensive and cardiovascular protective effects by diminishing the generation of angiotensin II and retarding the degradation of bradykinin.
